For Silestone Quartz with a polished finish, we recommend you use a mild household cleaner, such as 409®, Fantastik®, Lysol®, or Windex®. In case of stubborn spills or stains, soak the area for up to 10 minutes with one of the above cleaners and vigorously wipe away with a non scratch Scotch Brite® pad.
Silestone® Leather™ does show daily living more frequently and therefore requires more daily maintenance than other Silestone Quartz products. For your daily cleaning routine we recommend Countertop Magic™ follow instructions on bottle of cleaner.
The natural quartz in Silestone makes it the toughest interior surface available on the market. It resists scratching, staining and scorching better than any other natural stone or solid surface. Do avoid excessive force or pressure because that may mar or chip the surface. Don’t worry about spills from coffee, wine, lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar, makeup, and many other common household products; just avoid harsh chemicals. And don’t worry about dropping a lit match onto your Silestone countertop; it won’t scorch. But, use trivets when placing any hot items to avoid thermal shock.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY GRANITE COUNTERTOP?
The most important rule when it comes to natural stones is: never use anything on them that you would not use on your hands. It is advisable to keep away from the abrasive pads and powdered cleansers when cleaning the natural stone. The soft scrub products contain pumice and this can damage the stone floors and counter tops. You should also keep away from acidic products such as those containing ammonia. To ensure the surfaces last longer, you should always use the cleaning products and sealers that are specifically made for natural stones. Soap and water works just fine, as well as mild commercial products. Do not use glass cleaners or vinegar based products. Too much cleaner or soap may leave a film and cause streaks. If this happens, clean up excess soapy film with clear, warm water and a clean sponge or rag. Dry the surface after cleaning with a soft cloth. Clean spills immediately. Don’t use bleach, vinegar, lemon juice or other cleaners containing acids or ammonia such as Windex. The high acid content can dull the finish. Do not use abrasive scouring powders or liquids. These products contain abrasive chemicals or ammonia that may damage the surface. Adhered materials like chewing gum, food, nail polish, or paint can be scraped away with a plastic putty knife. Rinse the surface with clean water to remove residue.
GEOS HANSTONE ADVANTAGE AND CARE
GEOS Recycled Glass Surfaces are easy to maintain and keep clean. For daily care and maintenance we recommend wiping the surface with a damp cloth or a mild cleaner such as 409®, Fantastik® or comparable cleaning product. The use of bleach or other harsh chemical cleaners is not recommended.
GEOS Recycled Glass Surfaces are non-porous so there is no need to seal or wax your tops. We do recommend however that spills be wiped up as soon as possible. In the event of a stubborn stain, we suggest soaking the stain with a mild cleaner combined with a nonabrasive Scotch Brite® pad.
GEOS Recycled Glass Surfaces are heat and scratch resistant. To avoid thermal shock, the use of a hot pad and trivet are recommended instead of placing hot items directly on your GEOS Recycled Glass Surface. This practice is also suggested when using crock pots or electric skillets. When cutting with sharp objects we recommend the use of a cutting board.
Q QUARTZ MAINTENANCE
For every day cleaning use a soft sponge or dishcloth with warm water.
For stubborn or greasy clean-ups use a gentle liquid cleaner like Mr. Clean, 409, Simple Green, Fantastic etc. or ordinary dish washing detergent e.g. Palmolive with warm water and a “White Scotch Brite”.
Never use red or green Scotch Brite on Q as they contain aluminum oxide (the same abrasive in sand paper) and may dull Q’s finish.
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents such as regular Comet and Ajax. If needed, Bon Ami and Bar Keepers Friend are both approved non-abrasive cleaning powders that will clean without affecting Q’s finish.
Though most common household cleaners have no effect of Q, never allow your Q™ countertop to come in contact with drain cleaners, paint strippers or products containing Hydrofluoric acid, Methylene chloride, Trichloroethylene or any product with a very high or very low PH. These types of chemicals may etch or discolor the surface of Q.
There is no need to seal your Q countertop. Sealers cannot penetrate Q™ and remain on the surface. Eventually the sealer will start to wear off unevenly in high use areas causing the polish to appear inconsistent.
Q™ is scorch resistant and under normal conditions is not affected. Always use a trivet or hot pad between Q and any heat generating device including but not limited to crock pots, deep fryers, hot pots and pans or electric skillets. Sudden or rapid change of temperature or sustained heating, especially near edges and cut outs, may create enough thermal expansion energy to cause your countertop to crack. Damage caused by thermal expansion is not covered under the Q warranty.
